Islamabad: The Officials of the Ministry of Housing and Works while giving a detailed briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works have revealed that The National Construction Company (NCL) of the Ministry of Housing and Works is being merged with the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) to provide improved services to the employees. The Standing Committee on Housing and Works met on Monday with Senator Hidayatullah in the chair was informed that all codal formalities in this regard have been completed regarding the merger and the matter is under discussion in the Executive Board of FGEHA for the final approval. They added that The Merging Of NCL And FGEHA is in the best favor of the masses and govt to reduce the losses on urgent grounds.
The Senate body was informed that the total worth of these projects is merely Rs 1821 million whereas the operational expenses of the company are much higher than its output and the company is facing a loss amounting to millions of rupees. It is also reported that the NLC has been working on the deficit for a long period of time but the previous government either could not notice it or didn’t pay any heed to it and now the government has decided to merge it with FGEHA to not only save a handsome amount but also to improve its services.
Prior to the briefing the committee discussed in detail the development schemes in Sector G-14/1 and strictly ordered to close all development being carried out for the masses who are living illegally over there. The senate body formed a sub-committee headed by Senator to probe into the matter related to illegal occupancy in the sector. The committee also reviewed the criterion of the Estate Office for the allotment of the property and the procedure of vacating the illegally occupied property of the government. The officials told the Senate Body that all the allotments are made purely on merit. The officials of the Ministry of Housing and Works also informed the Committee that 2800 illegally occupied properties have been retrieved so far.
The Senate body also advised the officials of the Ministry of Housing and Works to look for the promotion of high-rise developments. It is pertinent to mention here that the incumbent government has already amended building bylaws in the capital for the promotion of high-rise buildings. According to the Clean And Green Pakistan vision of the PM, the High rise developments would not only bring more and more investment in the capital but also help in preserving green areas and agricultural land and assist in maintaining a neat and clean environment besides protecting the scenic beauty of Islamabad.
