CDA Approves Revised Alignment Plan for Bhara Kahu Bypass Project

Construction of Revised Bhara Kahu Bypass Project to Start This Month

ISLAMABAD: Just like previous Projects, the Tubewells Automation system, Bus Committees, and many others, One More Development Project got approval from CDA. The special assistant to Prime Minister on Capital Development Authority Affairs Mr. Khurram Nawaz Awan while addressing a public gathering at Bhara Kahu has announced that the work on a much-needed and long-awaited Bhara Kahu Bypass is going to start during the ongoing month. The work he said would be completed in two years and the long-standing issue of severe traffic jams at Bhara Kahu would be resolved. The construction of the Bhara Kahu Bypass would not only benefit the dwellers of Bhara Kahu and its surroundings but also minimize the woos of the tourists heading towards as well as the people living in Murree and Azad Kashmir.

Over the past few years, with a lot of traffic jams and hustle and bustle all around, The  Bhara Kahu area of Murree Road has turned out to be one of the most crucial points of public woos and worries in the federal capital. The ever–increasing population of the area with a lot many people traveling to Murree and Azad Kashmir has made Bhara Kahu the point of routine traffic jams and growing congestion creating problems for the travelers in general and the people of the area in particular.

The revised alignment of the 7.4 km Bhara Kahu Bypass Flyover, which is a part of the proposed Margalla Road, has recently been approved by the Capital Development Authority. The Army’s Engineer in Chief had presented the revised alignment to the officials of the civic agency.“Actually, the first alignment was around 2km short, but we had to acquire land and pay compensation to people for their built-up property. Therefore, to avoid new acquisition and subsequent litigation, we opted for revised alignment, which is 2km longer but it passes through state land,” A CDA official told. The official also elaborated that under the revised alignment, the road would be constructed on the state land starting from Quaid- e- Azam University Till Satra Meel.

Margallah road according to CDA’s master plan starts from Sangjani on G.T Road and after passing through Margalla Hills will Culminate on Murree Road near Satra Meel. The CDA has assigned the task of construction of the road to the FWO as a lot many defense installations also fall alongside the route of the proposed Margalla Road. The FWO is already working on the 1st portion of the Road from Sangjani to D-12. In the 2nd phase, the road would be linked to the  Khayaban –e-Iqbal near constitution avenue. The third and the last portion of the Margallah road starts from Quaid e Azam University to Satra meal of which the Bhara Kahu Bypass is the major part.

The government as well as the civic agency is interested to complete the construction work on the first part of the road and more importantly the last phase as early as possible at least before the completion of their five years term so as to provide maximum relief to the masses to mitigate their worries by easing traffic load especially around congested Bhara Kahu that has become a bottleneck for the traffic up and down the Murree Hills.
