Islamabad: The Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday announced that the cabinet has approved a Housing Project For Overseas Pakistanis. Span over an area of 400 Kanals in Islamabad the housing scheme will be having 6000 flats for the ex-pats. The minister was briefing the media after the cabinet meeting. The Minister said that the overseas Pakistanis can purchase apartments through the Roshan Digital Account, a facility provided by the central bank for the overseas Pakistanis which saw an overwhelming response on the part of Expacts ever since it was launched last year.
The minister further added that the government is expecting to draw a heavy amount to the tune of 2 billion dollars out of the housing scheme. He said that the facility provided to overseas Pakistanis to own a house of their own especially in the federal capital through Roshan Digital Account would be a great relief for them. The minister also added that the govt has also introduced the Digital Power Of Attorney Portal For Overseas Pakistanis previously a few months back, and now the cabinet has directed the concerned authorities to come up with a plan to cater to all foreigners who want to buy properties in Pakistan. He said that the government is trying to provide as much relief as possible to the masses.
The Cabinet, he added, also approved electricity adjustment of one rupee per unit for the next three months to provide maximum relief to the people, He further continued that the government had also Approved Structure Of Rawalpindi Kharian Motorway, Innovation Policy for Science and Technology, Privatization of Guddu and Nandi Pur power Plants besides approval of import of urea from China. He said the Ministry of Science and Technology has been advised to procure Electronic Voting Machines to Election Commission to hold the next election. In response to a quarry regarding the imposition of yet another lockdown, the minister said that neither the country can afford a lockdown at this critical juncture nor the government has a plan to go for that however he requested the general public to carry out as many precautions as possible to avert the growing threat of yet another wave of Coronavirus.
It is to be noted here that the incumbent government under the dynamic leadership of premier Imran Khan has been striving from day one to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis as much as possible as the premier believes that the ex-pats are the greatest source of boosting the economy. What is needed is to restore their confidence so that they can invest in the country with full confidence. The State Bank of Pakistan already Launched several new schemes for them namely Roshan Apni Car, Roshan Samaji Khidmet, and Above all Roshan Digital Account according to the vision of the PM to bring the Current Account deficit to a reasonable and sustainable level for the economic development of the country. The Roshan Digital Account saw a tremendous response and by April last year, it had crossed the USD 1 billion mark within seven months. The current announcement of the government to establish a housing scheme for the overseas Pakistanis through the Roshan Digital Account is also meant for bringing to the country more and more foreign inflows to speed up economic activities as envisaged by the prime minister.
