The Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umer has reviewed the progress of the Greater Water Supply to Karachi K-4 Water Supply Project and directed the concerned authorities to expedite the work on revised PC-1 and its approval by the CDWP and ECNEC as early as possible. The long-delayed water supply project was conceived some 15 years back at a cost of merely 25bn billion to be executed by the provincial government, but the work lingered on until the federal government has recently taken over the project and estimated cost of the redesigned 650 MGD K-IV water supply project has risen Rs 150 billion.
The Project Director Aamir Mughal briefed the chair about the recent advancements made in this regard. The meeting was also attended by the Additional Secretary Development Abdul Aziz Uqaili and project consultants. The Project director briefed the minister about the design and components of the project. The PD informed the Pakistan Wapda has already completed the work on the Phase wise revised design of the project. It was also informed that the work on execution of the project will start in 3- 4 months and be completed by the end of October 2023.

Mr. Aamir Mughal informed the participants of the meeting that the design of the K-IV project has been developed with a modular approach that contains five pumping stations with five large mild steel pipes of 84 inches diameter each carrying 130 MGD with a total capacity of 650 MGD. The Minister directed the concerned officials to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power to the pumping stations and to supply water to the reservoirs and expressed his satisfaction over the development of the project. He said that the pace of the project is in line with the vision of the PM to ensure the supply of water to the people of Karachi at the earliest.
