Islamabad, The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in its meeting, under the Deputy Chairman here on Monday approved the 20.17 billion Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) Project and sent it to the Executive Committee of Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval. Senior officials of the Planning Division and representatives of concerned ministries also participated in the meeting. The construction of a 43km world-class environment-friendly mass transit system will facilitate 550000 people daily.
Earlier the federal minister for planning and development Asad Umer had announced in his speech that Prime Minister Imran Khan would himself attend the groundbreaking of the project by the end of September this month. All codal formalities have already been completed for the groundbreaking of the project.
Another project was also presented in the meeting to construct underpasses and flyovers to remove level crossing from the loop section of KCR. According to the officials, as many as 22 level crossings will be eliminated to make the route reliable for the public. Out of a total length of 43 km, almost 15 km will be on the ground and around 28 km elevated.
The project will play an important role in the country's socio-economic development of the most populous city. The proposed Karachi Circular Railway will prove to be a crucial project for the people of Karachi. Since the city is one of the biggest cities globally and the economic hub of Pakistan, a sound and safe system of transportation and communication are entirely necessary. The long queues of vehicles on the roads and hassle all around adversely affect economic activities. The completion of the project will not only reduce the miseries of the masses but also play an important role in the economic development of the country
