NLC Awarded Rs 10.2bn Contract for 10th Avenue Project

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday after approval from Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), decided to award the contract of the 10th Avenue Development Project Islamabad to the National Logistic Cell (NLC). The NLC turned out to be the lowest bidder with 10.28bn after the civic agency decided a few days back that the contract had to be awarded to some government company. The other competitor of NLC was FWO whose bid was a bit higher so the city managers decided to award the contract to the NLC. The five-kilometer road starting from Katarian Bridge at IJP road while passing through Sectors I-9, I-10, and H-10 will end at Srinagar Highway near the starting point of Sector I-10.

The NLC will work on the 10th Avenue Project in two Packages. The first package includes Highway, Underpass at the Railway track, and a flyover at Srinagar Highway. The work on this project has to be completed in 21 months. The CDA has awarded the contract of the project to NLC so that the work could be completed within the specified time, the CDA official told. He said, “These two companies (FWO and NLC) have full capacity to complete the projects within the deadline. In the past, several projects saw delay due to contractors’ delaying tactics, so now we are hopeful that all the major contracts will be completed well on time,”. The official also said that earlier the civic agency had some bad experiences of delaying tactics by the contractors so the authorities have decided to get the mega projects executed by the reputed government companies like NLC and FWO.

The construction of 10th Avenue was included in the Master Plan of the civic agency like 7th Avenue and 9th Avenue but the work on it lingered on due to some reason or the other. The completion of the project will reduce the distance between Rawalpindi and Srinagar Highway besides reducing the travel time. It will benefit the residents of I-9, I-10, and H-10 the most besides providing easy access to the educational institutions and government offices in the sectors of the G, E, and F series. The NLC is already working on two major projects of widening and overhauling of IJP road and & 7th avenue project that will help a great deal in reducing the traffic issues in the city.
