Rawalpindi: The Hill Stations Murree, Nathia Gali, and surrounding areas have received heavy snowfall yesterday that has prompted the tourists to rush across to enjoy the snowfall in the region. As per the latest reports, the heavy snow has almost blanketed the whole region like Murree, Galiat Malam Jabba, and surrounding hilly areas. According to Assistant Commissioner Murree, by Sunday evening almost 50 thousand vehicles had entered the city while the capacity of parking in Murree city is only 4000. Keeping in view the ongoing situation and to avert possible Traffic jams In Murree Due To Snowfall and other issues, the Rawalpindi Traffic Police Sunday issued a traffic advisory. Murree faces a lot of problems in the tourism season due to limited parking areas, living areas, etc., on the other hand, CM Gilgit Baltistan (GB) is Determined to make the GB a World Tourists Point. In this regard to save tourists from unwanted circumstances, City Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory regarding heavy snowfall in the snowy areas.
For the tourists who had rushed to the mountains to enjoy snowfall owing to the weather forecast, it has been advised by the City Traffic Police (CTP) to avoid wrong parking, double lines, and taking selfies in the middle of the road. The city traffic officer Taimur Khan also advised the visitors to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid overspeeding. Usually, the great rush of people during the snowfall causes traffic jams and road blockades. He also advised the tourists to ensure the fitness of their vehicles before they make off for the Hill Stations. The traffic police also urged the masses to cooperate fully with the traffic wardens and other officials.
It is reported that the Galyat region has received around one foot of snow and Naran around 1.5 feet. According to Met Office, the westerly wave is affecting different parts of the country and it is expected to persist till Tuesday and rain and snow are expected in Gilgit Baltistan, Upper KP, Potohar Region, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas, Coastal areas of Sindh and Baluchistan. While smog is expected to persist in plain areas of Punjab whereas the weather will remain dry in other parts of the country. According to the Rawalpindi administration, Snow clearing machinery is at work round the clock to maintain the flow of traffic in Murree. However, the link roads in Galyat are closed due to heavy snow. The Galiat Development Authority has advised the tourists to use Tire Chain while traveling to Ayubia and Nathia Gali and avoid side Parking of vehicles for smooth flow of traffic.
