Rawalpindi: The chairman of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Tariq Mahmood Murtaza has informed that the construction work on Kucheri Chowk would start in January next year. He said that the Kucheri Chowk Rawalpindi Remodeling Project and Defence Chowk Project will be started soon that would ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the city. He said that the Kuchery Chowk will cost around 3.8 billion while Defense Chowk would be completed at a cost of 2.1 billion. He also added that Ammar Chowk Project would be completed soon.
According to the details, the RDA has already requested the Punjab government to start work on the construction of Kuchery Chowk as the Ammar Chowk Project is about to be opened for traffic on December 30. After the completion of Kucheri Chowk, the RDA has a plan to start the construction of Defence Chowk. Earlier it was decided to start both the projects simultaneously but later the RDA thought that the work on both projects at the same time would trouble the flow of traffic in the city so it was decided to complete the Kuchery Chowk first.
The chairman RDA highlighted that the incumbent government has released required funds urgently due to which Ammar Chowk Project which was delayed for the last twelve years is being completed in time. He also added that in view of the growing congestion in the city the Ammar Chowk project featured some important changes like the addition of twin underpasses, underground H.T and L.T cables, new service lines, and reinforced earth panel. It is pertinent to mention here that earlier the cost of the project was estimated as 754 million but due to technical and design changes for up-gradation accompanied by the significant increase in the prices of inputs, the cost of the Ammar Chowk Project reached 1307 million.
