CDA Decided to Launch a Bus Service In Islamabad

The CDA-Development Working Party the chairman in the chair, has decided to launch a long-awaited bus service in Islamabad. The estimated cost of the project is reported to be 873 million. The civic body approved the PC-1 of the project along with seven other development projects. The buses according to the CDA would be seen on the roads by February next year on three routes i.e Sohan Garden to Faisal Masjid, Bhara Kahu To Faiz Ahmed Faiz Metro Statio and from Tarnol Bus Station to M5 Metro station.

Prior to that the civic agency had made several attempts to start a bus service in the capital but could not materialize its dreams. But now the authority has taken a practical step towards the bus service along with seven other projects including a 40 million project to construct 115 washrooms in the city and a 689 million project to purchase modern machinery to improve sanitation. In 1980 the government bus service namely GTS and then a private service Varan also started bus service but could not last longer on the roads.

The Development Party of the Capital Development Authority also approved a 193 million project to construct an underpass on the intersection of Atta; Turk Avenue, G5 and G6. The agency will also widen Jinnah Avenue and Ayub Chowk at the cost of 157 million. When asked about the timely completion of the projects the CDA officer claimed that he is determined to complete all the projects in six months. He said that the buses will initially be launched on three routes but later three more routes would be added.

Earlier in July this year, the chairman CDA announced to start a bus service in Islamabad that not only facilitates more than one million residents of Islamabad but also minimizes the problems of millions of people who travel to Islamabad. Initially, 30 buses with a capacity of 70 passengers each would be launched but later more buses and more routes would be defined.
