ISLAMABAD, The Federal Government has expressed complete dissatisfaction over the Safe City Project Islamabad and the Prime Minister has approved a new proposal of a complete change in its model.He has also urged the authorities concern to chalk out a comprehensive program to make the safe city project sustainable and more reliable.The Prime Minister advised to include more cameras in the system and improve the efficiency of the existing ones.According to the newly conceived program the cameras installed privatetely by the public will also be brought under the Safe City Project.

The project was conceived by the previous government to ensure monitoring and policing through the most modern technology for the security of the federal metropolis.The cameras installed in the system include video surveillance and vehicle Management system.The cameras also have the facility of automatic number plate recognition.The Safe City Project was also believed to work as an aid to the security agencies in criminal investigation, Traffic management and its regulations but the idea could not bear fruits in letter and spirit the sources said.
The Safe City Project was initiated in 2016 at a total cost of 125 million with the Chinise soft loan.There were 1900 cameras installed and 150 people got employed under the project’.The project has been criticised over and over again by the different agencies and organizations due to its ineffective and unreliable performance to serve the purpose in a true sense.The project came under spotlight during the meeting of subcommittee of Public Account Committee.The committee had expressed its concerns over the project and demanded a probe in the matter.The PM has therefore advised to carry out a complete revamping of the project.
