Karachi Green Line Becomes Fully Operational With All 80 Buses On The Roads

The people of Karachi will have a sigh of relief as the long-awaited and much-needed Karachi Green Line Bus Service becomes fully operational with all eighty buses moving on the roads of Karachi Starting from Numaish towards Surjani Town. The Time-limit has also been set between 7 am to 10 pm. Earlier this Green Line BRT In Karachi was inaugurated on a trial basis with only a few buses on the roads for limited hours but now the service is fully operational since Monday. The 21 Km long track has 22 Stations with every station lying at an 8oo meter distance. Each bus has a capacity of riding 150 passengers with ladies in the front portion and gents at the back. There is also space specified for families and special persons.

The bus service is presenting a beautiful picture with the latest services and comforts and there are at least two ways to buy tickets and travel by bus. The ticket can be bought worth Rs 55 from the ticketing booth no matter you travel to only one station or all 22 stations. The other economical option is to get a card worth Rs 100 and have the amount per Kilometer deducted by the machine when you get off the bus at the desired station. Abdul Aziz the Senior Manager said, “You will also have the option of buying tickets through vending machines, which we will be made functional in a week or so. And within two to three months there will also be a point of sale or POS machines attached to the vending machines as these can charge you through your credit or debit cards”

Mr. Aziz further added that they are trying to introduce services like we have in the UK and said, “You will also have the option of buying tickets through vending machines, which we will be made functional in a week or so. And within two to three months there will also be a point of sale or POS machines attached to the vending machines as these can charge you through your credit or debit cards.” He further added that “ The vending machines, when fully operational, will issue tickets as well as top-up cards, which will help lessen human interaction in a Covid environment. Still, the less tech-savvy can go to the ticketing booth.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the Green Line Bus Service was initiated by the previous government in 2014 but due to some reason or the other the project lingered on till it was finalized inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan at the end of 2021. Now the service is fully operational with all buses playing on the roads however there are still a few important things on the stations like lifts or escalators are still missing on most of the stations and some of the latest ticketing services are still to be started. The buses, however, with the most modern equipment provide a wonderful source of traveling through the city.
