LAHORE: To address complaints from residents of private housing societies in Lahore, the Punjab government formed a Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) in accordance with the Lahore High Court's (LHC) judgement. During a recent court session, Additional Advocate General (AAG) Jawwad Yaqoob delivered the notification confirming the committee's formation.

The committee will be led by the secretary of housing and urban development, with representatives from the local government department and LDA acting as members, according to sources in the attorney general's office. Notably, residents of numerous housing societies have petitioned Justice Shahid Jamil Khan of the LHC citing the LDA's weak regulations.
The judge rejected a provision in the notification that permitted a representative of a housing scheme to serve as a committee member in response to an argument made by the petitioners. The law officer gave the court the assurance that the committee would examine all grievances relating to private housing projects, including concerns about the misappropriation of amenity plots and utilities.
