Most parts of Pakistan are experiencing a heat wave, and the electricity bills are now out of control due to severe summer and exorbitant electricity rates. People are now thinking of installing solar panels, and most people have already done so. However, those who cannot afford solar panels are still suffering. The government understands the needs of the people. Therefore, they have decided to give the people of Pakistan a little relief.
Amidst the hot weather, there is good news for the people of Pakistan. The good news is that CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the “Roshan Gharana” scheme. Under this program, Pakistani households in Punjab that consume 50 to 500 units of electricity will get solar panels, and the government will pay 90%.
The Punjab government will provide solar systems to domestic consumers in easy instalments. Initially, under the program, the Punjab government will install solar systems for 4.5 million domestic consumers in easy instalments. The units of the house where the solar system is to be installed will be checked first.
To get the solar system installed, domestic consumers need to send their ID card number and the reference number on their electricity bill to 8800. This will complete the registration process. After registration, domestic consumers will be given solar systems through a draw.
Initially, consumers will pay 25% of the solar system's cost through the Bank of Punjab and National Bank. No interest will be charged on this amount, and consumers will have to pay the actual cost of the solar system in instalments over five years. The consumer will pay the cost of the solar system through instalments on their electricity bill.
The solar systems for eligible consumers will be installed by companies registered with the government. These solar systems will start being installed in September or October. Consumers using up to 200 units will receive free solar panels from the government. Consumers using between 200 and 500 units will be provided with an interest-free loan. For consumers using more than 500 units, the government will contribute 75% of the interest-free loan.
Domestic consumers with monthly electricity units of 50 or less will receive a 500-watt solar system, while those with 50 to 100 units will receive a 1-kilowatt system. Consumers using 200 to 300 units will get an 1100-watt system, those using 300 to 400 units will get a 1650-watt system, and those using 500 units will get a 2200-watt system. Domestic consumers whose electricity usage has been up to 500 units over a year will benefit from this scheme.
