Islamabad: In the wake of heavy rainfall in the twin cities the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon paid a visit to different areas of the capital city. He directed the concerned quarters to ensure proper cleanliness of the surrounding areas of the city, especially the ones lying close to Nullas. The DC himself checked cleaning work in preparation for the possible heavy rainfall to ensure proper drainage of water. In July last year, a mother and her son were killed in the capital city when several areas of Islamabad experienced urban flooding after a heavy downpour. Similarly, there were many cars swept away by the heavy flooding of water in the E-11 sector of the capital.
During his day-long visit to several areas the DC also visited E-11 which always faces heavy flooding during the monsoon season. He instructed the management of society to pace up cleanliness work and widening of Nullas so as to avert any emergency situations that the residents of the area had faced in the past. The management of societies was also instructed by the DC to ensure the removal of encroachments around Nullas for smooth flow of water in case of heavy rainfall in the days to come.
During his visit to nullas near kachi abadis the DC Islamabad expressed his concern regarding the presence of basements in the areas close to Nullas and directed the housing societies to immediately close the basements of the residential as well as commercial buildings in the surroundings of the Nullas to avert any emergency in the monsoon season. He said, "No negligence would be tolerated for the safety of residents, those responsible would be punished strictly." The DC was accompanied by the additional deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner Sadar zone, deputy registrar cooperative housing societies Kamran Cheema, and Capital Development Authority director sanitation Fateh Maku.
