Mingora: The Chief Minister KP Mahmood Ahmed Khan on Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Rs 58 billion Sawat Motorway Phase ii Project. The 80-kilometer-long mega-development project under the public-private partnership mode from Chakdara to Fateh Pur would be a milestone toward the sustainable development of the region. The CM also laid the foundation stone of the Sawat University of Engineering and Applied Sciences Balakot Campus at a cost of around 1.7 billion. The CM also inaugurated the newly constructed building of the district headquarters hospital Bariakot.

While speaking on occasion the CM said that the development project is a milestone for the entire region for sustainable development. He congratulated the people of Sawat for the formal groundbreaking of the project. He said the motorway project would create job opportunities and promote tourism in the region. He announced that after Sawat Motorway the groundbreaking of Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway and Dir Motorway would also be performed. He boasted of the achievements of the KP government and said that the development projects undertaken by the incumbent government would be remembered in history and the people of the area would enjoy their fruits in the near future.

As per details, The Rs 58 Billion Sawat Motorway Project Phase II will have nine interchanges and eight bridges. Phase-I of the mega project from Nowshera to Chakdara has already been inaugurated last year. Phase-I starts from Nowshera and passes through Swabi, Mardan and Malakand Sawat District culminates at Chakdara in Lower Dir District. The road got opened for traffic in June 2019. The phase-I constructed by the FWO has reduced the traveling distance between Nowshera and Chakdara from three hours to one hour. It was also learned that eight bridges on Swat River would be constructed besides nine interchanges and four rest areas along the motorway. The link roads and highways where necessary would also be built. It is to be mentioned here that Swat Motorway would benefit directly the people of Swat, Upper, and Lower Dir, and Chatral besides providing easy access to market for the products of the entire region. The promotion of Infrastructure in the region will boost up tourism and play a vital role in the promotion of economic activities in the region.
