Lahore: The construction work on the Sheeranwala Gateway Flyover has almost been completed. The Rs 5 billion mega development project will be formally open for traffic by the end of this month. The main portion of the project named Data Ganj Bux Bridge has already been opened for traffic a few months back. The Project director Iqrar Husain said, “We can confidently say that almost 99 percent of work has been completed. Hopefully, we will get it formally inaugurated by end of this month. Presently, we are completing some minor works (footpaths, etc) at a fast pace”.

The Project was started in June last year and its completion period was set at ten months. However, due to certain unavoidable circumstances, the project could not be completed in the specified time. The DG LDA along with the Project Director visited the site of the project several times and directed the concerned authorities to speed up the pace of the work. The project would mainly benefit the northern parts of the city namely the railway station, Walled City, Akbari Mandi, Lunda Bazaar, Badami Bagh, Shadbagh, Misri Shah, GT Road, Data Darbar area, and Brandreth Road. Around 130,000 vehicles would easily get passed easily from the bridge.

The DG LDA Amir Ahmed Khan in a detailed briefing to the Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Aslam Iqbal said that the continuous rainfall during the ongoing monsoon has delayed several ongoing development projects in the city including Sheeranwala Project. He said, “The sports complex at Sabzazar will also be inaugurated next week whereas the sports complexes at Shahdara, Singapura, Shalimar, Kahna, and other areas of the city are being built at a fast pace.” He added that the completion of the roads around Babu Sabu would be ensured soon and rehabilitation work of Saggian road is also in full swing. The minister directed the LDA authorities to complete the development Projects on an urgent basis.
