Sindh Govt Brought 121 Diesel Hybrid Buses from China

The Sindh transport minister Awais Qadir Shah in a statement here on Wednesday said that the first batch of 121 diesel hybrid buses for Karachi have left the Chinese port. The buses will reach Karachi in the next three weeks and would start plying on the roads next month. The 1st tranch of 121 buses to Karachi port is a part of a 250 buses project of the Sindh government for six districts of Karachi. The buses are reported to ply as intra-city on 15 different routes. Last year the government of Sindh announced to bring 250 buses to Karachi roads by February 2022 but the project was delayed mainly due to covid-19 related restrictions.

The transport department of the Sindh government informed that out of a total of 250 buses, 240 buses would be allocated to Karachi city while 10 buses would be allocated to Larkana city to overcome traffic issues. The transport minister said that apart from six major districts of Karachi the government has a plan to introduce this latest service to other major cities of the province. It was also informed that the Sindh transport department has started proceedings on the Red Line section of the bus rapid transit service as an environment-friendly mode of transportation. The project once completed will not only provide the masses with the most modern transportation facility but also create some 3000 jobs besides adding a handsome amount to government revenues.

As per the details route, 1 will cover a 29.5-kilometer distance from Model Colony to Merewether Tower. Route 2 covers a distance of 32.9 kilometers from North Karachi to Indus Hospital via Nagan Chowrangi. Route 3 covers a distance of 33 kilometers from Nagan Chowrangi to Singer Chowrangi. Route 4 from Mosamiat to DockYard. Route 5 from Surjani Town to Masroor. Route six will be from Gulshan Bahar Orangi Town to Singer Chowrangi. It is to be mentioned here that the Sindh government has announced the Bus services for Karachi several times in the past as well but for the first time, the plan is being materialized in letter and spirit.
