The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced the construction of two new parking plazas in Islamabad in response to the city's growing parking issues. The decision is being made as construction on the Rs1.3 billion Blue Area parking plaza, which has a September 30th, 2023 completion date, is underway. According to a CDA official, a large nullah caused delays at the Blue Area parking plaza, pushing back the project's start date.
But now that construction is well underway, the plaza should be finished on schedule. Tahir Mahmood, the director of works, announced that in the following three days, bids would be invited in order to award contracts for the building of two new – one in F-8 and one in I-8 markaz. Four additional plazas have already been designed, he continued, and the CDA will shortly decide when to begin their development.

Notably, the city has been experiencing parking issues as a result of the declining number of parking spots. Despite spending millions of rupees on their construction, the two underground parking spots that the CDA had previously built in the Jinnah Super Market could not be used effectively.CDA officials emphasized that the rise in vehicles, along with poor bylaw and planning implementation, were significant contributors to the parking problem. The city's drivers who struggle with parking might find some comfort in the development of new parking plazas.
