CM Approves District Status of Murree as ‘Kohsar District’

CM Approves District Status of Murree as ‘Kohsar District’

In the wake of the current sad incident due to heavy snowfall claiming Many Tourists Deaths In Muree, the Punjab Government has approved in principle to give Murree the status of the district. The decision is taken to ensure better administration in the city in the future. The proposal to create a new district named Kohsar District after its approval has been forwarded to the concerned departments for necessary action. The new district would consist of Murree and its nearby Tourist spots mainly in Kotly Sattian Region. The Chief Minister during his visit to Murree right after the tragic incident had announced to create a new district in Murree so as to ensure immediate actions in case of the circumstances that resulted in chaos and tragedy on Friday night.

The CM has also directed the concerned authorities to not only establish the new district but also form an authority named Kohsar Development Authority. The development authority will be assigned the task of development as well as rescue and relief operations if and when required. In this regard, The Board of Revenue has been instructed to define the limits of Kohsar District on an urgent basis. The recent development is aimed at minimizing the level of risk in case of special circumstances and ensuring better administration and management in the days to come.

According to the latest information the primary report of the Murree Incident has been submitted to the CM office and Mr. Buzdar has expressed deep condolences and grief over the loss of lives apparently because of the sheer negligence on the part of authorities concerned. The CM has said that indiscriminate action would be taken against those responsible for negligence in the light of the report. The report states that the main road has not been repaired for the last two years while the other roads got stuck due to excessive traffic flow in the city. The report added that there were no machines on the points where they were usually deployed in the past and no arrangements for clearing snow on the urgent ground were made by the administration. The report stated that the roads were blocked on 16 points due to the falling of trees and the tragic deaths of around 23 tourists occurred mainly because of excess carbon momo oxide.

It is however pertinent to mention here that the proposal of making Murree a separate district was presented during the previous government and then PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was about to announce Murree a district to separate it from Rawalpindi to ensure better civic services in the city. The new district was to be named Kohsar District comprising of three Tehsils of Rawalpindi, Murree Kahuta, and Kotly sattian. The decision was deferred due to the objection of Tehsil Kahuta which lies too far away from Murree city and it would be very difficult for the people of Kahuta to travel a long way across to reach Murree city. Now the government has decided to include only two Tehsils that is Tehsil Murree and Tehsil Kotly Sattian in the New District and Tehsil Kahuta is to stay in the Rawalpindi district.
