Capital Development Authority (CDA) has moved a summary to the Federal Cabinet whereby proposing that the F9 Citizen Club building should be utilized as a Convention and Cultural Centre. A few months ago the Prime Minister had visited the building and directed the CDA authorities to make some positive use of it as the building hasn’t been used for any purpose ever since it was built. Spread over a total area of 22 acres with a covered area of around 265000 feet. The massive building was lying vacant since 2010 in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling regarding the proposed use of the building. Currently, a temporary covid vaccination centre has been set up by the federal government in the building. Many Other Developmental projects by CDA like the Redevelopment of Sector I-12 Islamabad and Sector E-11 Development are already under process now this is another revolutionary decision by the Capital development authority.
Following the instruction of the Prime Minister to utilize the huge building, the Board of CDA Decided To Use The Citizen Club Building As Convention And Culture Centre, and the summary in this regard has been sent to the cabinet division for final approval by the Federal Cabinet. According to a CDA official once approved by the cabinet, the building would be ready to use for the said purpose and will be run by a board of governors appointed by the federal government. The building has several indoor facilities like a gym, swimming pool and fitness centre. The official also clarified that no member would be required of the public for using the facilities on the premises. It was also decided that the building would be used for holding conventions, exhibitions and sports-related activities.
The construction of the building was started in 2008 but when the structure was ready the Supreme Court ordered that the premises could not be used as a club. The order of Supreme Court said, “As a huge amount has already been spent [on the club] the CDA, with the approval of the federal government, instead of abandoning the project may utilise the building and other facilities for any public welfare project like a women’s university, medical/engineering college, science, technology or IT Institution”.
