Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a warning to all non-filers, stressing that failing to file income tax returns could result in the disconnection of vital utility services. The advertisement on behalf of the FBR was published in the Mainstream daily newspapers on December 4.

The information indicates that the FBR has started sending letters to people who haven't submitted their income tax returns, even those who haven't done so but are required by law to. Important utility services may be disconnected for noncompliance with income tax requirements, as per the recently enacted Section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. People who do not file their income tax returns run the risk of losing their gas, electricity and SIM card services. This innovative policy aims to establish a clear connection between tax compliance and the execution of necessary services.
The FBR has released a QR code to scan and file, which will expedite the process of submitting income tax forms. Taxpayers are urged to make use of this creative strategy to comply with tax laws efficiently. People who need help or clarification with submitting their income taxes should call the FBR Helpline at 051 111 772 772.
