Karachi: According to the latest information on January 2, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is considering a massive housing project covering 14,000 acres next to the Northern Bypass in Karachi. The project would significantly reduce its financial difficulties. The information has come from sources indicating the KDA's Governing Board approved the plan about two years ago as they awaited Sindh Government approval to purchase state land. Naveed Anver, the Director General of KDA, described the upcoming actions.

He revealed that the Chief Minister would receive a proposal to give the KDA around 14,000 acres close to the Northern Bypass at discounted prices to be paid in four equal instalments. In addition, to gather ownership information for prospective land acquisitions in Deh Mahio and Deh Mithaghar, the Board of Revenue (BoR) will be contacted.
Mr Anver underlined the need for an estimated 100,000 additional residential units annually, with the formal sector able to provide only 32,000 units, in light of the city's increasing housing demand. This disparity highlights the urgent need for accessible housing options by driving residents into shantytowns and informal settlements.
