Islamabad: In order to resolve the ever-increasing problem of transportation in the capital city, Prime Minister Shahbaz Shahbaz Sharif has decided to launch a metro bus service on 13 new routes in Islamabad. Federal Minister for information Marium Orangzed in a press conference here in Islamabad on Thursday. The federal Minister added that 123 new buses would ply the 13 routes which have already been identified. These 13 routes she told would be linked to the already existing metro routes in the twin cities. The project, she added would be executed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Earlier, the PM while inaugurating the Green Line Metro bus service had directed the civic agency to start the intercity bus service. According to the CDA, the 13 new routes include the route from Police Foundation/Orange Line Station to Red Line Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station I-8; Allama Iqbal Station to Red Line Potohar Station; PIMS to Secretariat; Nilor to Khanna Pul; Pirwadahi Chowk to Faizabad; D-12 to G-10; F-11 to Red Line F-8 station; G-11 to PIMS; Aabpara to Tramri Chowk; B-17 to 26 Number Chungi; and I-16 to 26 Number.

It has been informed that the CDA has asked a private bus service to arrange 150 buses for this purpose. Out of the 150 buses, 128 will ply the new routes while the remaining ones shall be at the disposal of the CDA. After the opening of financial bids to decide the per kilometers rate, the CDA would give a go-ahead to the lowest bidder for the purchase of the 50 buses. Two private companies – Faisal Movers and Daewoo have submitted their bids.
