Lahore: LDA is already paying keen attention to the development of the city, several times LDA Chairperson Visited The Developmental Construction Sites Lahore. Now the government has directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to prepare a Comprehensive Master Plan For Lahore Division. The Proposed Lahore Division Master Plan includes cities namely Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, and Kasur. The LDA also sought the help of governing body to tackle the issue of border delineation. The governing body prepared a draft and sent it to the Chief Minister Office for approval. Although the Master Plan is still under discussion in the Provincial Legislative body yet the LDA has already completed the records of Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib and handed them over to the respective District Councils.
Since the Population Of Lahore has reached almost 12 million, so it was decided that in order to reduce further pressure on the city the new Master Plan should Accommodate the neighboring cities of Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, and Kasur in the master plan. In this regard, a meeting of the governing body concluded, “ LDA authority in a meeting held on Nov 26, 2019, decided that master planning will be held for the whole division/all four districts, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Kasur. However, the same will be done in a manner that if later on the jurisdiction of LDA is refined to the Lahore district, the other districts… may be able to use the master plan for their respective districts if desires”.
Lahore being the Provincial metropolis of the largest province of the country is the Second-Most Populous City In Pakistan. It is also a hub of political, cultural, and economic activities and therefore expanded rapidly over the past few decades and there has been a dire need for proper planning on social, political, and economic fronts. Over the years, successive governments tried to review the planning of the city and its surrounding cities but could not really succeed. The incumbent government took the issue seriously and ordered the LDA to realize the Master Plan urgently.
The Master Plan of Lahore highlights mainly five categories namely, Land management and housing, traffic and transportation, sustainable living environment, urban governance, and finance. Being the center of economic social cultural and educational and health activities, Lahore has a great potential to come up as one of the most modern cities in the world. The current Master plan has been conceived keeping in mind all the requirements of an advanced and progressive city.
