Lahore: Centre Business Authority (CBD Punjab) has started the construction of CBD Punjab Boulevard and Kalma Chowk Remodelling Project worth Rs 5bn. The road closure advisory has also been issued by the CBD Punjab. In this regard the CBD authorities have decided to close Kalma Chowk underpass for all types of traffic for a month. According to the Punjab govt officials told that the completion of the project would enable the Gulberg main boulevard to become completely a signal-free corridor from Centre Point to Siddique Trade Centre and then the entire Jail Road till Qartaba Chowk.

Talking to media persons the Executive Director of Technical PCBDDA, Mr Riaz Hussain said that two more barrels from the existing underpass would also be constructed. It has also been informed by the CBD authorities that In the starting phase, there will be a road closure for two weeks from Saint Marry Park to Centre Point and the traffic from Ferozepur Road would be diverted through Kalma Chowk Underpass towards Centre Point.

A CBD official while talking about the project has said that it is a unique project of its kind that would enable commuters to enjoy signal-free traffic in the area. He said, “This is Lahore’s unique project that will have two underpasses immediately after crossing the Kalma intersection underpass (while heading toward Gulberg from Barkat Market (Garden Town), giving a signal-free access to the motorists to the CBD project area including Walton and Ali Zeb Road to move toward Firdaus Market and enter Cavalary Ground via Lal Shahbaz Qlanadar underpass”.
