The government of Punjab has expedited the construction work on the first phase of the Tourism Highway Project. In a briefing to the local lawmakers, the contractor of the project revealed that 40 percent of the work on the 32-kilometer-long section of the first phase of the project has been completed. Phase 1 of the Tourism Highway starts from Pindori Chowk Rawat up to Brure. The Rs 4.27 billion 123-kilometer Tourism Expressway Project is expected to be completed by March 2024.
As per details the tourism Highway starting from Kalar Syedan and passing through four tehsils of Murree will enable the tourist to enjoy the natural beauty of Murree and also that of Azad Kashmir. The tourists would enjoy the highest tourist points like Panj Pir while traveling on the Tourist Highway. Moreover, there would also be built multi-story commercial buildings alongside the highway that would also provide job opportunities to thousands of people.
It is relevant to mention here that Rawalpindi Development Authority has long been planning to transform the city into a full fledge tourist destination. The chairman of RDA Tariq Murtaza had personally taken interest and chaired several meetings in this connection. A few months back a meeting was presided over by the Chairman RDA to merge three tehsils of Rawalpindi namely Murree, Kahuta, and Kotly Sattian to form a mega tourism district. The completion of the tourism expressway will definitely prove to be a practical step in this direction.
